The Women’s Bureau has announced a program aimed at providing technical assistance to employers and labor unions across the United States and its territories to promote the employment of women in apprenticeable and nontraditional occupations (A/NTO).
The initiative focuses on developing and enhancing pre-apprenticeship, youth apprenticeship, and Registered Apprenticeship programs to prepare women for careers in A/NTO. It also includes providing orientations and resources for employers, unions, and workers to create inclusive workplaces, as well as establishing support groups and networks to improve retention rates for women in these fields.
Applicants may propose technical assistance strategies to support women’s participation in industries where they are historically underrepresented or concentrated in lower-wage roles, including advanced manufacturing, construction, energy, healthcare, IT, finance, and transportation. Organizations with experience as equity intermediaries and those focused on outreach to underrepresented communities—such as women of color, women with disabilities, and those in rural areas—are encouraged to apply.
